Wesley Clark`s Campaign Gets Mixed Reviews In First Week

Updated: January 7, 2009
Wesley Clark has been a presidential candidate for a week. His campaign so far has gotten mixed reviews -- the retired general has some stumbles but his impact on the race is being felt in a big way. Clark has already vaulted to the top of national polls, and some Democrats say he would be a better nominee than others in the race to face President Bush next year. But some Democrats say Clark needs to elaborate on his views on Iraq and domestic issues. Activists in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and other early voting states told The Associated Press they can`t be sure whether their hopes in Clark were misplaced. Still, many of the activists say they are willing to give Clark the benefit of the doubt, even though the grace period won`t be long. Today, Clark is to give a major speech on the economy. Tomorrow, he joins his fellow candidates in a televised debate.
