Now that it`s official, the Clark campaign is officially working overtime to bring in some much-needed campaign cash.
The retired general`s supporters estimate more than $1.5 million in pledges and more on the way.
That`s a good thing for the campaign, considering the big money raised by many of his challengers.
Leading the way are:
former Vermont Governor Howard Dean-- $10.5 million
North Carolina Senator John Edwards--
$11 million
Mass. Senator John Kerry--
$16 million
All of the Democratic fundraising is relatively little compared to their opponent on the other side of the political aisle. President Bush`s campaign has raised more than $30 million.
Still, Clark supporters say he`s a strong candidate, regardless of where he ranks on the money-raising list. Representative Marion Berry, no stranger to fundraising himself, explains, "He`s a unique individual at a unique time and I think the two fit together so nicely that it`s possibly going to make money not as important as it would have been."
