Tattoos More Popular, Especially for Teens

It seems more and more adolescents are starting to make that lifelong commitment. Not getting married, but getting tattooed. "Everyday, it seems to be someone who just turned 18 to get tattooed or pierced," said Ashley Berry, 7th Street Tattoos. A recent study done by a Children`s Hospital resident shows almost a quarter of the nation`s college students have tattoos. But Dr. Aaron Ward cautions that people with compromised immune systems should be careful, because they`re more vulnerable to infection. "People with diabetes, we worry about their poor healing qualities as well as they`re more likely to get infections," said Dr. Ward. That`s what parents should look out for when considering whether or not to let their adolescent have one. Ward found that between eight and ten percent of adolescents are getting tattoos, and between three and ten percent of the general population has them.
