Information On Sex Offenders In Arkansas Should Be Available By Next Week On Internet

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Information on Arkansas sex offenders should be available on the Internet by next week. A law passed by the Legislature earlier this year authorizes making personal information on the state`s high-risk sex offenders -- more than 1,100 of them -- public. Arkansas will be the 38th state to post offenders` names, addresses, photographs and crimes on a Web site. Civil libertarians argue that the Web sites cause sex offenders to be shamed and harassed even after they`ve served their sentence. But the U-S Supreme Court has upheld similar Web sites in Alaska and Connecticut, saying they are regulatory -- not punitive -- in nature. The information will be accessible through links on the state Crime Information Center web site, just click on the following link for more www.acic.org
