Inspectors Look At Crime Lab To See If They Deserve National Accreditation

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Inspectors will soon be evaluating the Arkansas State Crime Lab with an eye toward granting it national accreditation. The American Society of Crime Lab Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board plans to begin the inspection of the Little Rock lab within 90 days. Inspectors will spend about a week interviewing employees, going through files and policy manuals and scrutinizing equipment. Lab director Jim Clark says accreditation makes such facilities more accountable since there is an agency evaluating its standards. The Arkansas lab has been untouched by recent scandals that have put labs from Washington, D.C., to Houston under scrutiny for shoddy work. Clark says his employees work extra hard to make sure testing is done correctly. More than 230 crime labs in the world are accredited.
