Homeowners Appeal Property Tax Increases

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Homeowners, charging their houses are overvalued, have appealed to the County Assessors office to lower its appraisals. Property taxes are based on appraisals conducted by Pulaski County Assessors. Higher appraisals results in a higher tax bill. In 1996, Pulaski County homes were appraised for the first time in 12 years. Some homeowners saw their taxes climb as high as 500%. Since then, a state law was passed allowing counties to raise property taxes by only 5 percent. Pulaski County Tax Assessor Janet Ward says the office is willing to work with homeowners on lowering their appraisals. -- Filed by Dave Jordan
