Travs Traveling?

Short on comfort, long on character, Ray Winder Field is one of the oldest parks in organized baseball. All of that history, though, might not be enough to keep the Travs from moving to a new park (think of it as a smaller version of Autozone Park in Memphis). "It fills a niche we don`t have for downtown right now," explains the Downtown Parternship`s Sharon Priest, "and that`s a lot of family entertainment." Priest says it`s more than just a field of dreams, that city leaders have traveled to other Mid-South ballparks for inspiration, and that now, they have agreed on a location (just east of I-30, between 4th and 6th Streets). Bill Valentine, GM of the Travs, says he`s open to the idea, even though many fans have expressed their desire to stay at Ray Winder. Even with all the financial incentives and bragging rights that would come with a new stadium, Valentine says it`s easy to understand fans` resistance to change. In baseball, old habits die hard. So do old stadiums and the memories that come with them.
