Self-Service Makes for Speedy Check-out

Tired of waiting in line at the grocery store or the home improvement store? If so, you might want to pull into the Fast Lane -- otherwise known as a do-it-yourself check-out. Home Depot in Little Rock installed the check-outs three months ago. Store officials say the computerized system tracks every move -- cutting down on the possibility of theft and fraud. Home Depot Supervisor Candice Kastel tells News 4 Arkansas, "The computer automatically knows how much that merchandise weighs by the code that is scanned into the computer." Home Depot says the self-checkout cuts wait times in half. Stores like Wal-Mart and Kroger also have them. Story filed by: Lyndall Stout
