Slow Buses, Hot Passengers

Updated: January 7, 2009
For the sixth day in a row Arkansas is under a heat advisory. It`s not easy to tuck yourself away near the air conditioner, when you`re outside waiting on the bus. And some Hot Springs residents are getting hotter while waiting on the buses that are running late. "They run late, sometimes they can`t help it, but they run late and it makes me mad because I have to be at work a certain hour," said Barbara Crane, a passenger of the Intracity Transit Bus system in Hot Springs. "It`s very hot and if they`re late we do sometimes get a little frustrated," said passenger Sherry Herron. To fix the probelm the city is suggesting to change the routes. "When we`re on time, they know when to come out and they don`t have to wait long. But obviously these delays cause some concerns about having to wiat longer than anticipated," said Lance Hudnell, Hot Springs Deputy City Manager. The Hot Springs Board of Transportation will make final suggestions on those proposed changes next week. The Board of Directors will vote on them September 2. If approved, they`ll go into effect October 1. City officials say increased traffic, construction delays and longer routes for buses have delayed bus schedules.
