Health officials caution that West Nile season is just heating up in Arkansas.
The state Health Department says the peak season for the mosquito-borne virus in Arkansas is between August eleventh and September 21st.
Last year, 43 human cases of the disease were detected among 15 counties. Five deaths were attributed to the disease by the Health Department.
Officials say concentrations of mosquito species that spread the
disease help account for more severe outbreaks. Also, the presence of birds with the disease helps the spread.
