New Casino Across The River?

Memphis, Tennessee, Mayor Willie Herenton vows to step up his campaign for a casino within his city limits. Herenton says the issue is an economic one, not a moral one. Casinos in to the south in Tunica, Mississippi, have made for hard times for the nearby greyhound track at West Memphis, Arkansas. Herenton, who is running for a fourth term, says the Tennessee legislature should allow a Memphis casino. A change in the state Constitution likely would be needed. Tennessee voters just recently approved a state lottery after a debate that went on for two decades.
