Some airmen stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base are headed to Asia to help with US efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq. The 463rd Airlift Group is to fly supplies and troops in and out of Afghanistan and Iraq. The unit has completed similar missions over much of the last two years. Base officials say the airmen are expected to deploy in late September or early October. They will work out of the same handful of bases they`ve seen before. The group returned home May Fifth in a string of C-130s after more than 18 months of deployment in Asia. The group`s fall mission is expected to be a 90-day deployment. The 463rd includes about 1,100 airmen and 30 planes. This will be the first 463rd deployment under the new command of Colonel Scott P. Goodwin.
