Overpayment Of Jurors In Pulaski County

There are several ideas for making sure the Pulaski County Clerk`s office does NOT overpay jurors again.
Among recommendations in an audit report are altering software so a prior month`s data must be purged before the next month can be processed. The report also says controls were inadequate and have to be tightened.
The audit showed 943 people on jury duty were overpaid more than
33,000 dollars in March and April.
The audit report concluded overpayments were made because the
computer system was NOT purged of its March entries before April payments were logged.
The overpayments averaged about $35 per instance, according to the internal audit ordered by the county`s Quorum
Court. Some people who received checks for too much returned the money.
