breaking news
Impromptu contract talks between Pulaski County`s teachers and reps from the special school district lasted well into the night. No word yet this morning on if contracts had been signed. The negotiation session started after members of the PACT teachers union and the support staff union called PASS, packed last night`s board meeting. They spoke for more than a hour during the public comment period. Union leader Deen Minton challenged the numbers the administration`s been giving the board. She says there`s no reason programs should have been cut when when the area has 21 million dollars in reserve cash. Board Member Pat O`Brien says the numbers concern him, but he wants to give the administration a chance to defend itself. No word yet on the district answering the union`s claims. Contract negotiations for PASS are scheduled for today at noon. Last night the board did agree to unfreeze pay raises based on experience.
