White County Residents to Vote on Sales Tax

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Residents in White County will soon decide whether or not they want to pay for a new jail. The vote has been scheduled for October 7. On the ballot is a half-cent sales tax increase to pay building and operating the new detention facility. The tax would raise about $3 million per year. The cost to build the jail ranges between 9 and 11 million dollars. Once the jail is paid for, the tax revenues will go toward maintenance and operations.
