Cabot High Schools Gets Makeover

Some Cabot High School students will be returning to school this year to what you could call "portable" education. The school district has moved about 16 classes and several offices into portable buildings for the coming school year. That`s because some of the campus buildings were so old and worn, they were no longer safe for use. So, the district demolished four buildings this summer. "This is the last building to be torn down this summer. It had a lot of roof leaks, a lot of rooms we haven`t used in a number of years because the tiles are falling down," says Jim Dalton, assistant superintendent of Cabot Schools. Other buildings, Dalton says, suffer from structural damage caused by the ground shifting. Cracks can be seen where the shifting has separated doors from the frame and floors from the wall. Cabot High School houses about 1,700 students. The school district`s Building and Grounds Committee is meeting Thursday night to discuss the architect`s proposals and which buildings are next for demolition.
