Arkansans Who Need Help Paying Heating Bill Offered Assistance

Help is available in Little Rock on Tuesday and Wednesday for Arkansans who need help paying their home heating bills.
Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) will begin accepting applications for CRISIS Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) during a CRISIS MASS INTAKE day on both days from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds inside the Arts and Crafts Building.
Crisis LIHEAP helps Arkansas families keep a crisis from happening. If a household is experiencing a heating emergency caused by the utility service to the home being turned off and locked, being without fuel, having broken heating equipment or leaking lines which must be fixed or replaced, Crisis LIHEAP can make a one-time payment to fix the problem.
To qualify for Crisis LIHEAP, Arkansans must have a disconnect notice with a disconnect date within 7 days of application date. All households receiving food stamps are potentially eligible to receive this assistance; however, the program is not limited to food stamp recipients.
The program assists households with home energy and heating bills. Eligible households must meet income guidelines and furnish proof of all household income for the month prior to applying. For a household of one, monthly countable income is $1,354. For each additional person in the household, add $468. Countable income includes check stubs, child support, unemployment, housing utility assistance, SSI, SSA, TEA, VAS and retirement benefits.
To apply for assistance, the household should bring a copy of the current utility bill, social security numbers, and proof-of- income and date of birth for all household members. Clients must have a working knowledge of household resources. Additional information may be required during the interview process. Failure to provide verification requested may result in delay or denial of assistance. The agency requests a 35-day waiting period to make payment.
