Marathon weekend in Little Rock kicked off with more than 1,000 runners participating in the Little Rock Marathon 5K. See photos below.
An inspiration for all runners is 37-year-old Daniel Corliss of Russellville. Corliss was born with cerebral palsy. Six years ago, he was hit by a car. He finished the 5K today in his walker alongside his father, Ed. The two were followed along the course by ham radio operators from around Arkansas.
More than 1,500 seven to 12-year-olds from around Central Arkansas finished the Little Rockers Kids Marathon. The Little Rockers had finished 25.2 miles prior to today and their finish line today is the same as where the half and the full marathons will finish on Sunday.
Amy Palmiero Winters from Long Island, New York, finished the final mile with Ben Frost of Crystal Hill Elementary School. The 34-year-old mother of two lost her left leg below the knee following a motorcycle accident in 1994. Ben was born with cerebral palsy. Amy plans to run Sunday’s full marathon, pushing Ben’s wheelchair.
Also finishing the Little Rockers Kids Marathon was John Hampton, who ran the final mile with his Mom, Little Rock Marathon Co-Director Geneva Hampton.
