With less than nine weeks until race day, registrations for the 2010 Little Rock Marathon races continue to come in at a record pace.

As of January 4, 2010 total registrations were up 64-percent as compared to this time last year.

Here are the latest totals:

               Limit   Current +/-2009 2009 2008 2007
Marathon 1,850  1,268    64%     775    696  372

5K              900    247    72%     144    86    35

The Little Rock 5K Fun Run/Walk has been moved to Saturday, March 6 at 8:00 a.m. in the River Market District.

Marathon organizers say volunteers are needed. Last year’s marathon would not have been possible without the 3,500+ volunteers working countless hours to make it happen. They need even more volunteers this year with the increase in participants and the potential for seasonal March weather. Volunteer sign up information is online, click here.

The start for the 2010 Little Rock Marathon, Little Rock Half Marathon and Little Rock Relay Marathon will utilize the corral system again this year. The corral system is designed to offer a quicker start for all athletes race morning. Participants are placed in corrals according to their estimated finish time. To be placed in a particular corral, a participant must run under the time stated.

Corral times are as follows:
             Time      Pace
Corral A 3:20:59  7:39:93
Corral B 3:45:59  8:37:14
Corral C 4:00:59  9:11:47
Corral D 4:30:59 10:20:12
Open      NA

There are preferred start corrals (Corral A and Corral B) for participants that have a qualifying in 2008 or 2009 and placement in those corrals is offered on a first come, first served basis. The preferred start corrals will line-up directly behind the invited athlete field and will lead the pack of non-elite participants.

You must qualify to be placed in Corral A or Corral B and provide proof you can run under the time stated. You do not have to provide proof to be placed in the C, D and Open Corrals. Assignment to Corral A or Corral B is not automatic and is not guaranteed. The first 500 participants to fax proof of meeting the qualifying time standards will be placed into the Corral A or Corral B.

Please note: faxing proof does NOT guarantee entry into the Preferred Corral. Placement will be confirmed via email by race officials. To be placed in Corral A or Corral B you must do the following:

* Submit qualifying times in the form of an official finisher's certificate or race result page from an official marathon within the past two years.
* Email messages or website links are not accepted as proof of qualifying. Proof of qualifying times must be faxed to (501) 371-6832 attention Little Rock Marathon Start Corrals.
* Qualifying times will be accepted no later than Monday, February 1, 2010.
* After February 1, 2010 you will be placed in Corral C or Corral D.
