By: Newsroom Solutions
Updated: September 28, 2009
Jews around the world are observing Yom Kippur.

It is a solemn holiday marking the end of ten days of introspection among followers of Judaism.

The period of introspection began with the two-day celebration of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.

In Yom Kippur, Jews cleanse themselves of sins transgressed in the past year.

The observance includes a lengthy service remembering loved ones lost.

Yom Kippur ends at sunset today.
