Arkansans across the state are busy scratching off instant lottery tickets now that sales are underway.

It all began in the wee hours this morning at one minute after midnight.

The countdown started more than 10 months ago when Arkansas voters approved the amendment to start a state lottery in the November election.

In the months that followed, a state lottery commission went to work shaping the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.

One of the first big moves the commission made was back in June when South Carolina's lottery director Ernie Passailaigue was hired away to lead the Arkansas lottery.

The instant tickets now on sale are only the first kind that will be available to players of the Arkansas lottery.

On October 20th, more new instant tickets will be added to the first four now on sale.

Until October 20th, Arkansans can buy instant tickets at four different price levels, $1, $2, and $5.

On October 31st, Powerball tickets will be added to the list, and then state draw game tickets will go on sale on December 14th.
