Millions of people across the U.S. will observe the National Day of Prayer Thursday.

The theme of this year's event is "Prayer? America's Hope."

President Obama has decided not to attend a formal early morning prayer service that marks the day. Obama is planning instead on signing a proclamation for the National Day of Prayer.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, quote, "Prayer is something the President does every day. We're doing a proclamation, which I know that many administrations in the past have done."
