Even the Tooth Fairy's Cutting Back!

By: RNS
Updated: March 6, 2009
You know the economy is tanking when children start getting less from the Tooth Fairy.

Securian Dental's annual Tooth Fairy Poll shows what the Tooth Fairy is leaving behind per tooth has dropped from an average of two-dollars-nine-cents in 2008 to one-dollar-88-cents in 2009. That's a 10-percent decrease.

Securian's chief financial officer notes, however, that the Tooth Fairy's decrease is far less than the one that hit the stock market in the past year.

The Dow Jones Industrials index lost about 32 percent as the economy struggled in 2008.
