Osteoporosis

By: Administrator
Updated: July 21, 2010
Are you afraid of a stumble, a fall, or broken bones? Osteoporosis occurs when a large amount of the spongy bone tissue breaks down leaving bigger spaces and making the bone more porous. The risk of osteoporosis rises as we get older and seniors over 70 often have brittle bones. A fall does not only mean bruises then, but it is easier to break a bone. Regular adequate intake of calcium and exercise helps to strengthen the bones and also helps prevent falls. Preventive strategies are particularly important to women because they are more likely to develop osteoporosis. Risk factors rise for both men and women 75 and older. If you think you might have osteoporosis you should make an appointment to discuss treatment and prevention options with your doctor.
