Auditions are September 8th for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre's "One Ninth," a new play written by Spirit Trickey-Rowan about the 1957 desegregation of Little Rock Central High School.

Trickey-Rowan is the daughter of Minnijean Brown Trickey, one of the Little Rock Nine.

The production will tour the state in the winter of 2009, with performances in 10 locations. Auditions are at The Rep on Monday, September 8, at 6 p. m.

Those auditioning are asked to bring a headshot and resume and prepare a one to two minute monologue. Some may be asked to read additional material from the script. All roles will be paid.

The roles to be played by actors 18 and older are as follows:

Minnijean: 15-year-old African-American teenager
Melba: 15-year-old African-American teenager
Mrs. Brown: Minnijean's mother (40-year-old woman, African-American)
Betty Ann: 15-year-old Caucasian teenager
Peter Hines: 16-year-old Caucasian male
Mr. Bryant: Principal of Central High School (between 40-50 years old, Caucasian)

Also, the play calls for a 9-year-old girl to play Phyllis Brown, Minnijean’s little sister, which The Rep will cast for rehearsals and the Little Rock performances only. The role will be cast locally from the residency venues for the tour. A parent or guardian must call on behalf of actors under the age of 18.

Rehearsals begin December 1. Following a three-week rehearsal period, actors will have a break for the holidays prior to local performances. The play tours Arkansas January through mid-February, 2009.
