Penelope
was a very pleasant surprise for us as a rental. The movie is
enthralling, intelligently funny at times but with a serious message.
Love yourself & stop worrying about physical beauty.James McAvoy proved to be a very charming leading man. He is fast becoming one of our favorite actors. His character loves & needs Penelope regardless of how she looks to others which is lets face it the way love should be.
Christina Ricci does an excellent job as Penelope. She learns that to be happy and to find love she has to look within her heart instead of through the looking glass.
Reese Witherspoon was fun to watch in a very different roll for her both as the feisty friend & as a producer of this film.
Other fine performances came from Peter Dinkage as the paparazzi type photographer, Catherine O'Hara as Penelope's rather annoying mother, and Simon Woods as the silly suitor who cannot see beyond the surface.
This is a charming modern fable that the entire family can enjoy.
This movie is rated PG.
