groceries2008-06-09-1213065197.jpgWith staples like milk, eggs and bread all increasing by double-digits, it pays to do everything possible to keep the grocery bill as low as possible.

Here are some ideas to fill the cart without emptying the bank account.

When gas prices began soaring, the government figured we should start burning corn instead.

Result? Gas is still high, and now so is corn, along with milk, meat and lots of other grocery staples.

That's the bad news. The good news is that saving at the grocery store is easier than saving at the pump.

For example, one idea is simply to make fewer trips. That's less opportunity for temptation, less aggravation and less gas. So try to get it done in one trip a week.

A good merchant will always place the most profitable items at eye level. Stoop and bend for the best values, and a little exercise.

Want to save 15% on groceries? According to some research, you can simply by using a list, and ignoring everything that isn't on it.

Sometimes generics aren't as good as name brands. But things like flour, sugar, salt or bleach? The only discernible difference is price.

What about coupons? Use them, but only for stuff you normally buy, not to check out new products.
