The top executives of Delta and Northwest Airlines say that customer service will improve if the two airlines are allowed to merge. In testimony before the House Judiciary Committee Thursday, Delta CEO Richard Anderson indicated concerns over a decline in customer service after a merger are misplaced. Anderson says consolidating the two carriers will allow the new airline to generate the capital and the balance sheet to be able to continue to improve customer service.
Northwest CEO Doug Steenland says the Delta-Northwest cooperation agreement that is already in place is a plus in favor of a smooth merger. Millions of dollars have been spent to coordinate Delta and Northwest's technology systems. Those are issues that usually present roadblocks for a merger, but Steenland says they are already done.
