babyStartling news about child abuse-- one in 50 newborns were victims of child abuse or neglect in their first week of life in 2006, according to a new study. More than 90- thousand were abused or neglected before their second birthday. "One thing you find in families that are abusers is that parents are isolated. They don't have good connections with family or church. They don't have close friendships." Experts say alcohol and drug abuse, poverty and mental illness may contribute to abuse of children -- and, that it's passed from generation to generation. Another factor is a general lack of knowledge about child care.
