Arbor Day celebration

AUFC will kick off a state-wide Arbor Day celebration, as well as hold our annual Arkansas ReLeaf project, which includes a tree give-away on March 16. A tree planting will be held the day before to plant trees donated by Little Rock Urban Forestry. Mayor James Firestone will read the Arbor Day Proclamation.Additional state, regional and local representatives will be on hand to participate in the Arbor Day ceremony and tree giveaway.The goal of the Arkansas ReLeaf project is to assist the Community of Vilonia by restoring the tree canopy that was lost due to tornado damage. These projects are planned and coordinated with individual communities and may be used for tree plantings on public lands, environmental stewardship and tree education programs in the public schools, and assistance to communities for participation in the Tree City USA Program. Past projects include Disaster Tree Restorations in Arkadelphia, Haskell, Dumas, Mena, Scotland and Marmaduke. The event will take place Friday, March 15, 2013 at 1:00pm and Saturday, March 16, 11:00am-2:00pm. At the Vilonia Ball Park on March 15 and the Veterans Memorial and Vilonia Fire Department Parking Lot on March 16 .
