NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - The North Little Rock Police Department (NLRPD) has issued a warning about a phishing scam in Central Arkansas.

The NLRPD says the suspects are contacting victims with Robo-calls and text messages, telling them their debit or credit cards have been canceled for various reasons.

Police say banks in the area are aware of this scam and are working to notify customers.

The scam is reported to work like this over the phone. The automated telephone call claims to be with a local financial institution and states the following: "Your debit card has been deactivated. To Reactivate, press 1......"

The NLRPD says to remember that financial institutions will never call customers and ask for debit or credit card information.

If you receive such a call, DO NOT give your card number or any other financial information.

The automated call is originating out of Florida.
