Fayetteville Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty

Updated: March 1, 2013
Fayetteville Police arrested a man accused of severely neglecting his dog.

William McClure, 54, faces a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals after his neighbors alerted animal control to the dog's condition.

Fayetteville Animal Control Officers began an investigation in early February, when they discovered a young dog with severe hair loss and open wounds on its face and body. The dog also reportedly had severe mange and had not received any veterinary care.

The dog was taken to the Fayetteville Animal Shelter for veterinary treatment, where hey estimate it will need at least six weeks of treatment on its way to a full recovery.

Shelter staff have named the dog Ace, and he will be up for adoption once his treatment is complete.

McClure was released from Washington County Jail Friday on $480 bond.
