NLR Police Prepare Patrol Units for Icy Roads

While most drivers are trying to stay off the roads, law enforcement officers are braving the slick streets to keep us safe.

Just like the hours leading up to the Christmas day storm, Wednesday afternoon North Little Rock police officers rolled out their response to slick streets, studded tires.

"The last storm dumped a lot of snow in a hurry, we want to make sure we are ready to serve the public," said Sgt. Brian Dedrick.

When tire rubber hits the ground the spikes on the studded tires stick out, giving police cruisers enough traction to stay the course, which is critical during severe weather when officers are still charged with patrolling the streets and also making sure doctors and nurses can make it to work.

"We want to make sure we have all emergency personnel on hand as needed," says Sgt. Dedrick.

The city saves money by studding their own tires in house and the five minute process saves lives.

"We want to make sure we are able to get to the citizens of North Little Rock that need help," he adds.

Doctors and nurses who are nervous to drive in poor conditions can call the non-emergency line at the North Little Rock Police Department at 501-758-1234.
