Updated: February 14, 2013
According to a new Gallup poll, Arkansas is comprised of 52 percent "very religious Americans," ranking the Natural State fifth-highest in the United States.

The poll classifies "very religious Americans" as those who said religion is an important part of their daily life and that they attend religious services every week or almost every week.

Mississippi retained the top spot, with 58 percent of its citizens classified as "very religious."

Utah, Alabama and Louisiana fill in the top five at numbers 2, 3 and 4, respectively.

According to the poll, eight of the country's 10 most religious states are in the south (with Oklahoma not classified as a southern state), while the 12 least religious states make up the whole of New England.
