AY Magazine Honors Domestic Abuse Victims

Arkansas ranks ninth in the nation when it comes to domestic homicides, and every day across the Natural State, programs provide shelter for women and children, not to mention the thousands of calls hotlines receive.

On Thursday, AY magazine unveiled its beauty makeovers after a contest it held in partnership with the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence for women who have suffered at the hand of an attacker.

Ultimate Makeover winner Lisa Adkins (pictured) offered advice for those suffering from domestic abuse.

"There's always someone that will listen," she says. "If the first person doesn't listen, go to another."

Adkins now shares her story with others at abuse shelters.
