House Panel Votes Down 12-Week Abortion Ban

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: February 14, 2013
A bill that would ban the majority of abortions at 12 weeks failed to get past an Arkansas House panel Thursday.

This came just hours after a Senate committee voted "yes" to banning abortion after 20 weeks in Arkansas.

An amended version of the 12-week measure fell one vote short in its effort to get past the House Public Health Committee.

The bill had been recently amended to add exemptions for fatal fetal disorders and other medical issues.

However, the bill sponsor can bring the legislation back to committee next week.
