The holidays don't have to be a deal breaker for your healthy eating plan. If you're having a party, put a large salad bowl with colorful vegetables at the beginning of the buffet line. This will let your guests munch on a high fiber, low calorie appetizer. Using a few simple substitutions in your holiday cooking can save hundreds of calories as well. Instead of butter to sauté, use broth -- it saves 104 calories per teaspoon. Other good substitutions are non-fat yogurt instead of cream or mayonnaise, skim milk instead of whole milk, and Splenda instead of sugar for baking.
