The driver of a pickup is recovering from injuries suffered when his vehicle's roof was torn open by a backhoe.

It happened this morning along Highway 270 West, just outside Hot Springs.

Traffic was stalled at about 7:50 after the accident.

Officials say the backhoe driver was trying to cross the highway to get to a work site when the bucket tore through the truck's top.

"The driver of the truck sustained lacerations to his head and face and was transported to Mercy Hospital with non life-threatening injuries," says Scott Miser with the Piney Volunteer Fire Department.

The driver was the only person inside the truck.
