The Conway Police Department escorted family and friends to Valley Baptist Church in Searcy to honor Officer William McGary.

A visitation service was held Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old died last week, after being hit by a car while directing traffic.

One of the many people at the visitation was his former Searcy High School baseball coach.

McGary played first base, graduating in 2005.

"He liked the big games. He liked to be in big situations. But most importantly, he was fun to be around. He was a joy to coach," said Clay McCammon.

Friends say McGary was a talented player who cared about his team mates.

"The best way to honor him is to continue doing your best everyday," said McCammon.

The funeral service is Wednesday at one, followed by a graveside service.
