The City of Little Rock is upgrading its aging fire truck fleet, and it's doing it in a way that saves money.

The city will upgrade each truck by refurbishing it, not by buying a new one. That's the money saving decision the city made Tuesday night.

City directors voted unanimously to refurbish an aerial truck for nearly a quarter of a million dollars.

A Nevada company won the bid to upgrade the truck built in 1993 for the growing department.

The fire department already owns the truck. The move saves the city thousands of dollars.

Some of the city's fire trucks are 10 to 20 years old.
