Roses Among Thorns is a group for women transcending the pain of cancer.
It all started when a local woman saw the need for support groups for women fighting cancer.
Wrapped in prayer these women know the hardships of cancer.
Each member of this support group has a story. Some have beat cancer others are still battling the disease.
Some have breast cancer, others struggle with lung or ovarian cancer, but whatever the diagnosis these women share a bond.
"This group is a sisterhood you cant explain. You cant say what it does, you just know what it makes you feel," says breast cancer survivor, Linda White.
The friendships are built in Roses Among Thorns, a support group founded by Linda Dickey in 2004.
"I try to get the ladies not to focus on the pain or the cancer, but to think about the roses in their lives," explains Dickey.
Once a month, Linda invites these women into her home. There they cry, laugh, encourage and pray with each-other.
"Really I just set the stage for these ladies by having a place where they can come together," adds Dickey.
But most importantly theres a lot of pampering, a chance for these women to feel like queens.
"Some of these ladies have never been to a tea party. Being a southern lady that I am I always have to have a tea. They love it so much. They feel pampered and thats what they need, is a lot of pampering," laughs Dickey.
When all is said and done the stories shared over tea give these women the power to keep on fighting.
"Its so important. Whenever youre looking at someone and you see theyve survived then that just inspires you. If they can do it - you can do it," adds White.
