A new chief of police has been named in Searcy.

Mayor David Morris announced at the City Council meeting last night that Jeremy Clark has been chosen for the job.

"I believe this appointment was made in the best interest of the Searcy Police Department and the city of Searcy." Morris said.

Clark has accepted a conditional job offer and is expected to begin his new duties in mid-February 2013.

Clark comes to the Searcy Police Department from the White County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), where he has been the Chief Deputy for six years. Within the WCSO, Clark was the Senior Public Relations/Information Officer, classroom instructor and was responsible for developing departmental policy, creating training programs, screening and hiring new employees, conducting internal investigations and managing a staff of 110.

Clark also currently serves as a certified instructor at the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute. He previously taught Law Enforcement courses across the United States with the Rural Executive Management Institute.

Clark's career also includes working as a police officer in Searcy and Stuttgart.

The Searcy Police Department is responsible for patrol, CID, dispatch services, Crimes Against Women, Animal Control, and the Drug Task Force. Combined authorized personnel total 64 employees with a combined annual budget for 2013 of nearly $3.5-million.

Clark was selected as a part of a process that started last year after then Chief Kyle Osborne announced his retirement.
