Police were called to the Acme Motel on West Roosevelt Road around one o'clock this morning.
That's where they found the 33-year-old victim lying on the floor of her home.
A man at the scene told officers he brought the injured woman to the hotel after he found her lying on a bridge near the state fairgrounds a short distance away.
One woman told police she heard a 35-year-old black man described as a contact in the incident report, telling someone he was going to "take care" of the victim a few hours before the shooting.
A search of a vehicle on the parking lot turned up blood on the passenger side door and seat, police said.
The victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries reported not to be life-threatening.
Police say officers were told the suspect in the case drove a blue truck.
The incident report states that while interviewing several people at the scene, officers noticed what appeared to be narcotics on a table. The suspected drugs were seized by police.
