Every year, Arkansas' cities file thousands of insurance claims after workers crash city cars, a lot of times because of winter weather.

The money for repairs ultimately comes out of your pockets.

Some people, like emergency responders, have no choice but to get out and drive around in bad conditions.

But now, they can be more prepared to keep you safe before the winter weather hits again.

The Arkansas Municipal League has a driving simulator that looks like a giant video game.

Purchased at a price tag of a $100,000 more than 1,000 officers from around the state have already used it, learning to make safe stops, practicing their pursuits, and preparing for the worst.

David Baxter with the Municipal League says the device can test officers on all aspects of winter driving, from reduced visibility to braking conditions.

The municipal League says it's working. They've seen the number of insurance claims filed by the City of Little Rock reduce by half in the year city workers been training on this simulator.

Watch the video to see how Anchor/Reporter Lauren Trager fared on the driving simulator.
