Light Winter Weather Moving Through Arkansas

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: January 14, 2013
Winter weather is affecting parts of Arkansas today.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock says there will be the chance for winter precipitation across the southern half of the state this morning and afternoon.

The NWS says a weak upper level disturbance will push north this afternoon. This disturbance will push moisture north into Arkansas, which will in turn interact with the cold air mass currently situated over the region.

Freezing rain and sleet will be possible across extreme southeastern Arkansas today as surface temperatures will remain below freezing most of the day.

A tenth of an inch of accumulation of ice will be possible, mainly on elevated roadways, trees and power lines.

There will be the potential for some snow and sleet from a line from Camden to Little Rock to Brinkley. Little to no accumulations are expected.

The NWS says snow seen on radar this morning in western and northern Arkansas was not making it to the ground.
