The Little Rock Central High band is thousands of dollars closer to their goal of going to the inaugural parade in Washington D.C.

The group needed just over $100,000 and only have about $14,000 left to accrue.

They've also garnered the national spotlight, as NBC was in town to talk about their planned trip and efforts to raise money.

"Our students did the work that allowed us to be able to receive this invitation, and it just makes me extremely proud of them and proud of our community," band director Brice Evans said.

The City of Little Rock also donated $5,000 today to push them closer to what they need.

The group wants to send all 103 members to perform in the inaugural parade Jan. 21.
