It's all thanks to UAMS students who want to give back to the community, while honing their skills.
Calls are coming in and appointments booked at the new UAMS 12th Street Health and Wellness Center.
Director Lanita White said, "It looks a lot different than people probably remember it."
The old pharmacy building was recently donated to UAMS and transformed into the new clinic which includes six exam rooms.
Empty seats fill the waiting room now, but that's expected to change as word gets out about this clinic. It is absolutely free to patients.
"We are targeting cardiovascular disease- hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol," said Dr. White. "And the other goal we have is for our students"
UAMS students from all colleges are fully staffing the clinic alongside the professionals. Many of them are volunteering their time.
"It's really exciting because our students are getting out in the community," said Dr. White. "They're volunteering, giving their education, giving their knowledge freely."
"What we find is that our generation of students right now are really givers, so they're very interested in community service... very invested in the community," she said.
The clinic is located near the corner of 12th and Cedar in Little Rock.
The clinic is open on Mondays from 10am-2pm and from 4-8pm. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can call (501) 614-2492 to make an appointment.
For more information on the clinic, call Dr. Lanita White- (501)686-5433. The clinic is accepting monetary donations and donations of medical equipment.
