Searcy Mayor David Morris says the city is moving forward with its plans to expand the airport but it will have to take out a bank loan.

The city is in the process of building a new terminal and parking lot to expand its airport, which Morris says is key to expanding the local economy.

Morris says he will ask city council the end of this month to approve a measure allowing the city to apply for a $230,000 loan.

The move is necessary to meet benchmarks set by the state to be eligible for matching grants, he said.

The total cost of the project stands at just over $728,000.
