Update: Kris Allen Having Hand Surgery Following Tuesday Night Car Wreck in Pulaski County

Update (Friday 1:30 a.m.):
Kris Allen is having surgery today for a hand injury suffered in a Tuesday night traffic accident just outside Maumelle.

The singer tweeted about his pending operation late Thursday night, posting the following:
Getting ready for surgery tomorrow morning. Gonna get this hand back to 100% no matter what it takes.

Update (Wednesday 2:45 p.m.):
The Arkansas State Police (ASP) is investigating the Tuesday night accident that left singer Kris Allen and his wife Katy injured.

It happened just outside Maumelle near Interstate 40.

ASP Spokesman Bill Sadler tells KARK 4 News that the accident report is not yet complete, but shared the following narrative from the trooper who was at the scene:
Jennifer Poynter exited I-40 (west) at Highway 365 about 6:20 PM, last night (Tuesday, January 1st).

As Poynter crossed over I-40 she collided with a vehicle driven by Kris Allen, who was attempting to merge from the Maumelle/Highway 365 interchange onto I-40 (west).

Poynter was issued a citation for careless driving.

Update (Wednesday, 12:30 p.m.):
Kris Allen is sharing more information about the Tuesday night head-on car crash that left he and wife Katy injured.

Maumelle Police tell KARK 4 News that the accident happened on Highway 100 (Maumelle Boulevard) at Highway 365 outside their jurisdiction and that the Arkansas State Police worked the accident.

Kris posted a photo to his Instagram account early this afternoon of his apparently totaled SUV.

Allen's father Neil also tweeted the second photo of the vehicle below with the caption "Air bags and seat belts. So thankful for this technology."

Original story (Tuesday, 11:50 p.m.):
Kris Allen and wife Katy are recovering from injuries suffered in a head-on car crash Tuesday night.

That's according to posts on Twitter by the Arkansas singer and his mom Kimberly Allen.

It wasn't noted where the crash happened, but the tweet by Allen's mother included a photo of her son in bandages on a hospital bed.

Kris, 27, later updated fans on his own Twitter account and added more news, announcing that wife Katy is expecting their first child.

Kimberly Allen tweeted:

"From Kris: he's in a lot of pain, arm broke, may not play guitar for a while. Prayers welcome please!"
"Kristopher and Katy are both pretty beat up but ALIVE! Thank you Jesus! They are setting his arm now and will have surgery tomorrow."

Kris' own tweets about the accident soon followed:

No further information was posted on Kris' official website as of midnight Tuesday.
