Which is why authorities continue to stress the importance of making sure you're locking up when doing last minute Christmas shopping.
The parking lots are full with those out doing last minute shopping and taking their own last minute precautions.
"We don't park after dark," showed shopper, Jayme Lawson. "I've always stayed real safe."
Lawson seems to stay a bit safer than others.
"I keep protection on me."
It's all in an effort to make sure Christmas goes as planned.
"We keep our vehicles locked but my main thing, I would rather them take everything out of my vehicle - not robbing us."
It's the shoppers going store to store that need to be on the lookout.
Erica Gibson explained, "I've put all my previously bought purchases in the trunk."
Authorities say they work the same cases every year.
"There are a lot of thefts from cars during Christmas time," said Pulaski County Lt. Cody Burk. "People walk by they'll see a purse laying in the car, they'll see a package. That happens every year."
If you didn't already know it's a safe bet to lock the car and cover the gifts.
In all cases the safe shoppers remind everyone to just be smart and lock it up because if you're not safe you never know what somebody's going to do.
